DATA CENTRES COOLING
Idemitsu launches a range of immersion cooling fluids
Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd. launched the “IDEMITSU ICF Series” high-performance immersion cooling oil. It combines high safety with improved cooling performance through low viscosity, contributing to energy savings in data centers.
The “IDEMITSU ICF Series” is a product developed by consolidating the technology and knowledge gained from the research and development of cooling oils and electrical insulating oils that the company has been working on for many years, and has the following features:
• High flash point and low viscosity. The higher the flash point of an immersion cooling oil, the less flammable it is, making it safer. The lower the viscosity, the better the cooling and heat dissipation effect, improving cooling performance. Generally, high flash point and low viscosity conflict, but by using carefully selected base oils and a unique additive formula, it was possible to develop a product that combines safety and cooling performance.
• Improved maintenance efficiency (odorless, low irritation, highly transparent). Not only does it not affect server equipment, but it is odorless and has low irritation, which reduces the maintenance burden. In addition, its high transparency ensures server equipment’s visibility when immersed in the liquid, thereby contributing to improved maintenance efficiency.
Immersion cooling is attracting attention as an alternative to conventional air cooling. This method removes heat by immersing servers in high-performance immersion cooling oil, which does not conduct electricity, and it has 30 times the heat transfer coefficient of air. Also, immersion cooling requires less power than air cooling, leading to lower power consumption in data centers.
