The 8100 ECO-lite range has been enhanced by Motul to meet the new API SQ and ILSAC GF-7 specifications

MOTUL

Motul announced the update of its 8100 ECO-lite line of automotive lubricant products to meet the new API SQ and ILSAC GF-7 industry specifications.

“The introduction of API SQ and ILSAC GF-7 specifications across the 8100 range illustrates our ongoing commitment to anticipating technological and environmental developments. Motul continues to provide professionals with lubricants that meet the highest standards of performance and reliability,” said Mark Grunert, the Head of Product Development at Motul.

Introduced in 2025, the API SQ specification issued by the American Petroleum Institute, along with its fuel-economy variant API SQ-RC, succeeds the API SP and API SP-RC standards. These new specifications deliver significant improvements in fuel economy, protection against Low-Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI), engine cleanliness, and component durability.

Certification procedures have also evolved, with updates to several standardized engine tests, including Sequence IIH (hightemperature deposits and viscosity), Sequence VH (low-temperature deposits), and Sequence VI (fuel economy). These enhancements enable API SQ-certified oils to deliver performance levels exceeding those compliant with the API SP standard.

Products certified to API SQ / ILSAC GF-7 remain fully compliant with the previous API SP / ILSAC GF-6 specifications, ensuring full backward compatibility.
